Resume Writing Secrets

One of the most important “secrets” for writing a good resume is to include action words. Examples of actions words are: “created,” “organized,” “developed,” “implemented,” and so on. Action words give an potential employer the feeling that you are a person who gets things done. Also, such words paint you as a person with a great deal of energy and initiative. Many people applying for a job fail to realize that the company that posted the job opportunity is looking for “solutions” from the person they hire. They have a particular set of objectives and responsibilities for the new hire to fulfill and if you can convince the employer that you can measure up to these challenges, your chance of getting the job is quite good.

Another important secret for writing a successful resume is present your work experience in terms the employer understands. For example, if you are in sales, make sure you use numbers, percentages, and sales goals in your resume. “I increased sales in my department by 50%” is the kind of thing a sales-oriented company is looking for. If you say, “My team exceeded our sales goals every year for seven years” it shows you understand the importance sales figures and projections.

When writing your resume, it’s important that you put yourself in the place of the person who will be reviewing it. What are they looking for? What’s important to them? What can you do to convince them you are the best person for the job?
