I need a resume. Where do I search?
The first answer that comes to mind as to where to get help with your resume is the Internet. At last count, there were over 500 major websites that offer resume help. They vary with some being very helpful to others that are probably just a waste of your time. How do you find the right one? You may want to start your search by typing “resume” in Google or other search engine. But be warned, doing so brings up over 165 million sites that contain the word resume. Obviously, you need to reduce that to about 10 or 15. Usually, the first 10 listings that appear after the Google search (the first page) are the resume websites that are most often used. This doesn’t mean however that these 10 are the best or the best for you. Take your time and check out a number of sites before deciding which one to use. If you have a friend or family member that has gone online for resume help, ask them which websites they would recommend.
Some websites have resume templates that do much of the work for you. You simply choose the style of resume you prefer and the template guides you though the process. The downside of using some resume templates is the they make it difficult to make corrections. Before deciding on which resume template is best for you, check the website for resume samples. And make your choice not just on appearance but what type of resume is best for your profession and, most importantly, what style of resume will get you that new job.
There are hundreds of books and magazines that can help you put a resume together. If you don’t have the money to purchase them your local library is a good resource. Keep in mind however that getting resume help this way can be time-consuming and tiring. And some material in libraries can be outdated and hard to understand.
Not only is it best to use the Internet for resume help but you’ll want to also use if for your job search. Many resume websites offer tips on finding a job. Some even have a list of job postings. When it comes to finding that new job, the Internet is your best friend.
