Most resume services provide a number of different resume templates for you to follow, some templates allow you to fill in the information as you go. For example, you might see an open entry for your name, address, email and phone number, followed by job information, qualifications, references and so on. This type of template can be very helpful if you are creating a resume for the first time or wanting to completely overhaul your existing resume. The downside of creating a resume this way is there’s a chance your resume will look like it like it was created with a template and thus, like so many other resumes out there.

It’s a good idea to look at a number of different resume examples before you begin yours. The time spent doing this can pay off in the long run. Most resume websites have a number examples, everything from the traditional to the creative and avant-garde. For most job applications, a traditional resume is most appropriate. You might, however, find components from a number of different resume samples that you can incorporate. For example, some potential employers like to see a Summary of Accomplishments on your resume.

Also on resume websites are a number of tips to help you in your job search. Everything from how to prepare for interview, to applying for a job online, to other websites that have job postings and other information.

Finally, some if not most sites require that you register with them before you can view the resume examples and templates. Normally, there are no fees involved until you actively use a resume template.
